DETAILS:

1. St Peter Mwangaza Nursery and Primary school

The main objective of the school is to offer quality education to all children. Currently we have a nursery and primary school levels 1-4.

The nursery and primary school are operating in the same building. Currently there are 35 children in the nursery and 44 children in the primary. (in March 2012) New students join the school almost every day. The exam results and progress of pupils are exceptional and all pupils are above the average. Many pupils are artistically talented or have some talents in sports.

Only the school is seriously lacking in books, booklets and arts and sports materials which is hindering the development of all pupils and the whole schoo

St Peter Mwangaza School is trying to empower and educate vulnerable children many of whom are found in the streets and have no parents or come from low income families and cannot afford education.

Every child has the right to learn to read so he or he can become the master of his or her own fate and destiny. Literacy can eliminate ignorance and ignorance is curse in our community!

Mwangaza group is trying to find different talents amongst the children already at young age i order to support the skills and talents. In Mwangaza school we support physical training and artistic learning methods! This world needs more strong, healthy, artistic, innovative and creative children. The school is doing its best to educate the children to be all of these things!

2. SECONDARY SCHOOL

The new secondary school started operating in January 2012. It has currently 15 students out of which 10 are girls. (March 2012) Mweangaza group is proud to educate girls, which so often are limited from the learning as they have to help in the house work. Students are both Christian and Muslim mixed.

The school is teaching the basic subjects and in addition it has started teaching reasoning and arts and skills classes for the students. Mwangaza group is trying to educate youths to have some practical skills in arts, sports, crafts, carpentry etc. in order to help them to help themselves whether they can continue with formal education or work after graduating or not.

Mwangaza group is trying to identify people’s natural talents and encourage the youths to practice their skills and abilities. That will enhance their self-esteem and bring a positive balance to the academic studies.

3. Mwangaza Orphanage

The orphanage has currently only 6 children, but many more are on the waiting list. The orphanage badly needs more beddings and other basic amenities for the children to live in a comfortable environment.

4. Mercy Old Women support group

Mercy group was established by old grannies (60-90 year old) who came together and created a support group in the community. They gather on every Saturday to discuss and to ponder solutions and direction for their lives. Many old women are very poor and live alone with many orphans and grandchildren in their household. They have problems with health and with the quality of accommodation.

Mwangaza Likoni is trying to come up with funds to hire a workshop space for the elders to start producing crafts and arts, and to have a space where the elders can always seek for assistance.

5. Youth Group for Natural Conservation

We have approximately 30 youths who gather once a week to discuss issues concerning environment. They have planted many trees around local schools and are currently setting up a tree nursery.
